Our Charities

The Cayman Islands Marathon benefits two great causes in the Cayman Islands: the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society.

Read more about our great causes below.

The Cayman Islands Cadet Corps is an initiative started by the Ministry of Education to educate and train youth in the Cayman Islands. The CICC consists of both male and female students between the ages of 12 and 17 years old.

The principle aims of the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps which is now operated through the Portfolio of Internal & External Affairs, in conjunction with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service, is to teach discipline and mold character.

Self-respect, national pride, civic knowledge, punctuality, sense of duty and leadership, physical and mental endurance, responsibility, citizenship and camaderie are some of the values taught to the students by the CICC staff.

The cadets are a very integral part of the Cayman Islands Marathon event. They assist in the set up and clean up for the race and they each run 1km in a relay form. Their Commandant and other leaders also run alongside them. In addition the parents of the cadets make up the majority of the 135+ volunteers who make the race happen.

The mission of the Cayman Islands Cancer Society, a non-profit organisation, is to increase awareness among the people of the Cayman Islands of cancer as a major health condition, to promote leadership in a range of areas, to prevent the development of cancer and to counsel and support cancer patients and their families.

The vision of the Cancer Society is to see a reduction in the incidence of cancer cases and an improvement in the quality of life of all those touched by cancer in the Cayman Islands through:

  • Initiating age-appropriate educational programmes;
  • Assisting cancer patients who meet the criteria with treatment related expenses;
  • Establishing a cancer survivor network;
  • Reviewing legislative matters of interest to the Society; and
  • Advocating for relevant changes in legislation

The Cayman Islands Marathon also enjoys a great partnership with the Cayman Islands Red Cross. The Red Cross provides volunteers for the race who man a water stop as well as first aid assistance at every other water stop, the turnaround and the Start/Finish line. Runners can choose to run for red in support of the Red Cross to raise much-needed funds. For more information about Running For Red, click here
