We have compiled a list of questions that we have received over the past few years. Hopefully this will help answer questions you may have as well. See you at the finish line!

General Info

Yes, you need to register and pay for the half marathon, and you or a member of your team needs to register and pay for the team. You will get 2 race packs and start the run with 2 timing chips, passing the relay one on at the first change point.

The cut-off time is six and a half (6.5) hours for both the marathon and the half marathon. The primary reason for the closure times are to allow for the roads to re-open. The respective agencies have been kind enough to allow partial road closure with this event.

A person can walk the full or half marathon as long as he/she can complete the event before the course closes. If the participant is unable to complete the marathon  or half marathon within six and a half (6.5) hours, we do reserve the right to remove him/her from the course.

We encourage all runners to run for a cause or charity! It definitely makes your experience more meaningful. Our official charities are the Cayman Islands Cadet Corps and the Cayman Islands Cancer Society but our participants raise funds for so many different causes. You can donate to any of those charities during the registration process or you can as a team or individual runner raise money for specific causes/charities by creating a fundraising page when you register for the race.

When you register for the event, a fundraising account is automatically created for you by our online registration partner, Haku Sports. You should see a link in your confirmation email that will take you through the process of setting up your fundraising account if you choose to do so. You can also log back into your registration account and in your profile select the 'create fundraising account' option from the menu. Then follow the instructions on how to set up your account.

You must be at least 16 years old to participate in the full marathon and at least 12 years old to participate in the half marathon. Parents must register their minor so that the waiver is signed by an adult. The age for the Kids Fun Run participants is 5 to 11.

Packet pickup is only available on the Saturday before the race. There will be no packet pickup on Sunday (race day).

  • Packet pick-up takes place on the Saturday before the race at the host hotel from 9am to 5pm. Participants who are travelling to the Cayman Islands for the race and are arriving after 5pm must email the race organiser to make alternative arrangements.
  • You must pick up your own race packet and bib number prior to the race. There is no packet pick-up on race day.
  • You may be asked to present a photo ID in order to pick up your race packet.
  • No packets will be mailed.
  • One person can collect the race packs for his/her relay team but that person is responsible for ensuring the bib chip is given to the person running the first leg of the team relay.

Finisher medals will be provided for marathon, half marathoners, and relay members who finish their respective races. Tech shirts or tanks are included in your race registration and are collected at packet pick up. Kids Fun Run participants will receive t-shirts. Event photos will be available for purchase online directly following the event on marathon-photos.com along with free, downloadable finisher certificates.

We would suggest the following viewing points along the course:

  • George Town - park in a location off the course (e.g., Mary Street, Dr. Roy's Drive, Waterfront Centre) and walk to any point on the course
  • Turnaround point - park along Shamrock Road and walk up to the turnaround in Prospect Point
  • Old Crewe Road - park in Old Crewe Road and walk up to South Sound Road

**Please note that your supporters are NOT allowed to drive, skate or bike alongside you on the course or you will be disqualified.**

Yes, we are a Boston Marathon qualifier. Our course is measured and certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Road Races) which is one of the criteria for being a Boston qualifier. Visit http://aims-worldrunning.org/directory.html to view the full list of Boston-qualifying races. You can also visit our Race Information page to view copies of our AIMS full marathon and half marathon certifications.

Race Attire & Accessories

We recommend that you leave your personal belongings at the bag check desk, located at the start/finish Line. All items must be placed in a bag and the bag check stub from your bib must be attached to the bag before you hand it in. The event is not responsible for lost items.

Yes, but please ensure they are at a volume where you can still hear road traffic.

Yes, we encourage all our runners to stay hydrated in whatever way they choose due to the warmer climate. You can refill your packs and bottles at the water stops situated less than every mile throughout the course.

No, you do not have to wear the shirt. However, it is a tech shirt/tank so you may want to consider it.

We encourage runners to get creative with their running attire and to have fun with our event. Please remember to keep it family friendly!

Yes. Your bib is a mandatory accessory that must be worn at ALL times. You must pin your bib somewhere on the front of your body. This not only helps the race coordinators keep track of runners but will also be useful when you're searching for your photos after the race.

No. We are a family-friendly event but we are also an official, chip timed event and a Boston Marathon Qualifier. For this reason, and for safety purposes, we do NOT allow strollers, pets or non-official bikes on the course. Any participant who violates this rule will be disqualified.

Transport Info

If possible, please car pool with friends and do not park along the route. Possible parking spots include the Waterfront Centre on Harbour Drive, First Caribbean Bank, Government Administration Building, and the empty lots on Mary Street and Dr. Roy's Drive.

The shuttles will run between the official hotel and 3 other hotels on race day.  These shuttles start at 3:30am and run continuously between the hotels until at least 12 noon.  The relay shuttles run continuously between the start/finish line and the turnaround point.  Both shuttle services are COMPLIMENTARY.

Relay Info

Yes! We encourage teens to team up with friends from other schools.

There are FOUR (4) people on each team.  Please note that one person cannot run more than one leg.  There must be four people on the team.  One of the team members can also be a half marathon participant and he/she will have to run the first leg of the relay.

Each relay team member runs approximately 6.5 miles.  Please note that a team cannot WALK the relay.  A combination of walk/run is okay but the entire team cannot walk the relay.

Each relay team receives a bib with a timing chip in it on a belt. Each member wears the belt and then hands it over to the next teammate after completing his/her leg. The person running the last leg returns the belt at the finish line.

Yes, the teams can be co-ed. We have four different categories of teams: all male, all female, mixed and corporate. There is also the CUC Teen Challenge, open to persons ages 19 and under.  Click here to read more about the relay event.

It is the total cost. The person who is registering the team pays the fee for the WHOLE team. Team members can then log on and register themselves without having to pay anything.

Yes. Wear them both and wear them proudly! Your team bib will be on a belt. Once you have completed your leg, you must pass the timing belt over to your teammate.

You can still start the race if you are late and you will be given the official gun start time for the purpose of results. Your gun and chip times will be provided for informational purposes.

There are no registration refunds or transfers. This policy is standard across most major marathons (e.g. London, Chicago, NY, Miami) and smaller ones like ours because of the extensive logistical planning and commitments that are made quite early in the race production process, sometimes four to five months before the race.

However, for a limited time, you can defer your race for one year for a fee of US$20. Just go back into your Haku Sports registration account and choose the 'Defer for Future' option. Please note that this option is only available for the full and half marathon categories and a deferral is only valid for following year's event.

Yes, you can switch from the full marathon to the half marathon or vice versa. You will be responsible for any additional costs associated with upgrading but there will be no refund for downgrading races. To switch race categories, log back into your Haku account profile, click on 'participant account' from the dropdown menu and edit your registration. You can also email the race organisers at info@caymanislandsmarathon.com for assistance.
