Course Description

Your run will take you along the waterfront of George Town, the capital of the Cayman Islands, in the residential area of South Sound which boasts multi-million dollar homes and dazzling views of the ocean, and then into the financial district and along the waterfront once again.

The route for each leg of the team event is described below:

Legs #1 and #3 – Start at Hard Rock Cafe, run through South Church Street into South Sound and then onto Shamrock Road (in front of Hurley's) through Old Prospect Road to Prospect Point which is designated the Turnaround Point.

Legs #2 and #4 – Start at Turnaround at Prospect Point, run onto Shamrock Road through South Sound, turning onto Walkers Road, continuing to Hinds Way where you will turn right and continue onto Academy Way (John Gray High School, Family Life Centre, Church of God Chapel Walkers Road are on that road) back to Walkers Road.  Continue on Walkers Road until the 4-way stop at Hospital Road.  Turn left onto Hospital Road and then onto Elgin Avenue in front of the George Town Police Station, and run through George Town toward the Town Clock, turning left and continuing to the stop light on Harbour Drive. Turn left and return to the Start/Finish line at Hard Rock Cafe.

Please note that NO coaches, skateboards, baby joggers and strollers, bikes, dogs, support vehicles or inline skates will be allowed on the course.

Water/Aid Stations, Medical Support and Restrooms

Water/Aid Stations will be placed every mile of the race and water and Gatorade will be provided at each station. First Aid stations will be located every two miles on the course and medic stations will be at the Start/Finish line and at the 7 and 20 mile markers. Medical personnel will also be present at several of the stations, the start line and finish area, and the Cayman Islands National Red Cross will ensure that runners are provided with quality First Aid care. In addition, there will be portable toilets or bathroom access approximately every mile along the course.

Timing, Pace and Results

The course is open for six and a half (6.5) hours. Teams who are unable to complete the race within this time will not be guaranteed an official race result, and will be picked up along the course and brought back to the Start/Finish Line.

The Walkers Cayman Islands Marathon is a chip-timed event. We use the MyLaps timing system. Each team will receive a timing chip belt when they pick up their packets on Saturday, 2 December between 9am and 5pm at the Westin. Each person must wear the timing chip belt in order to get a result.

Race results are updated and posted throughout the event, and the complete results are available immediately at the conclusion of the race. Split timing is also done at the turnaround point.

Prizes

All runners who complete their race will receive a commemorative finishers medal. For the teams, the person who runs the last leg of the relay will receive four medals to distribute to his/her team members. In addition awards are given to the top 3 males and females overall in the Marathon and Half Marathon and the top three teams in the 5 different relay divisions: Men's, Women's, Open Mixed, Corporate and the CUC High School Challenge. Awards are also given to the top three male and female in the following age categories:

  • 30 to 39
  • 40 to 49
  • 50 to 59

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE TEAM MUST CONSIST OF FOUR PEOPLE. One person cannot run two legs. However, a registered half or full marathoner can run the first leg of the relay if he/she wanted to. In addition, the relay CANNOT BE WALKED ENTIRELY.

Members of the CUC High School Challenge teams do not have to attend the same school. In addition, the route, rules and requirements for the CUC High School Challenge are the same as the 4-person relay.
